Manali Trip Plan — how many days and what to do

A good Manali plan depends on how you get there and how much time you have on the ground. Here’s how to structure it, what to prioritise, and how the season changes the plan.

How many days?

Allow at least 3 nights on the ground beyond travel time. 2 nights is a quick beach-of-the-mountains break; 3–4 nights lets you add Solang, the Atal Tunnel/Sissu side and a Kasol or Naggar day; 5+ nights suits a relaxed family or honeymoon pace with a Shimla add-on.

In and around Manali

Hadimba Devi temple in the cedar forest, Old Manali’s cafés and Manu temple, the Van Vihar and Vashisht hot springs are all close in. Solang Valley (paragliding, ropeway, snow in season) and the Atal Tunnel through to Sissu are the headline day trips.

Day trips further out

Rohtang Pass (permit and season dependent — the Atal Tunnel now gives easier year-round access to the Lahaul side), the Kasol/Parvati Valley, and Naggar Castle. We slot these to your dates and what’s open.

Best time to go

March–June for pleasant days and reliable snow points; July–September is lush but watch for landslides; October–February for winter snow, with some high passes closed. The plan changes with the season, which is why we tailor it.
